Frequently Asked Questions

1What information can go on the banner?
Information will include a photograph, person’s name, branch of service (“Line 1”) and major war/conflict and/or major award (“Line 2”). These banners are meant to recognize an individual’s service to our nation and not necessarily all of their achievements and awards.
2What are the best photos to use?
A color or black & white photo of the honoree in their military uniform is always best. Do not crop the photo. Simply let us know if you want a portion of the photo to be cropped out and we will take care of it. Have it scanned in high-res and sent to us as a jpg with the maximum quality settings. (Click here for scanning details) If a photo of the honoree in military uniform is not available, a current photograph of the honoree wearing a veteran's or branch hat has been utilized. High school photos have been used as well, especially for those who served in earlier wars or perhaps were killed in action.
3How long will the banner last?
Banners are printed on 18oz vinyl which is extremely durable and can withstand most weather conditions. The normal life expectancy of each banner is a minimum of two years. Due to this reason, the Boro will display banners for 2 seasons before they are retired. Banners ARE NOT returned to the sponsor at this time. They remain property of the Boro.
4What if I want my banner displayed longer than 2 years?
If your banner has been retired at the end of the normal 2-year life cycle, you can order a new banner to be displayed the following year. Orders will be open until March 1st of that year.
5Can I choose where my banner is displayed?
Banners will be placed, without reserved locations, along Old Mine Road.
6What about a garden flag?
The new Military Banner Program does not supply garden flags as in previous years. Your order includes only a vinyl banner to be hung by the Boro.
7Is my banner protected?
The Boro will make every effort to protect the banners but is not responsible for replacing banners that are stolen, damaged or destroyed due to age, vandalism, or any acts of nature including high winds. Any loss or damage to an installed banner will be handled at the discretion of the Boro.

~ QUICK SCANNING TIPS TO ENSURE BEST BANNER RESULTS  ~

• Ensure file submitted is high resolution.

• File should be a minimum of 300 dpi for a 4x6 photo while smaller photos should be scanned at 600-1200 dpi or greater.

• Save files at maximum print/resolution settings for JPG & PDF with the honoree's name (not dad's pic, scan1, etc).

NOTE: Photos from social media websites are generally low resolution and should not be used if possible to ensure best results. For the best results possible, take the time to find the best photo and have it scanned in properly. If you are not able to scan it yourself, enlist the help of a family member, friend, or your local photo place (Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, etc.).
